Lucinda, North Queensland, is the home to fishing paradise. The southern gateway to the untouched wilderness of Hinchinbrook Island, the amazing Hinchinbrook Channel, her many, many estuaries, nearby tropical islands and the Great Barrier Reef. Additionally, Lucinda is home to the longest jetty in the southern hemisphere. Our sugar loading facility is 5.76km long, and has a whopping 660 pylons where a plethora of fish call home. You can see why we refer to ourselves as the home of fishing paradise!
A coastal village, with everything you need within easy reach, Lucinda has a fresh local seafood and bait outlet, a pub with tasty pub meals, bottlo, large shady beer garden, plus a welcoming tropical pool for those hot days.
Additionally, beautiful seaside homewares and conveniences can be bought from our local holiday village, as well as the tackle shop at the boat ramp. Our nearby towns of Halifax and Ingham, have anything else you may need for your stay. We are the best of both worlds. Peaceful and quiet, yet easily accessible to the things you want on your fishing holiday.
We are even spoilt, having our very own Australian Volunteer Coast Guard operating on weekends, and a repeater for Townsville Coast Guard outside of busy periods.
The fishing jetty is prime real estate in the mouth of the Hinchinbrook Channel. You could catch just about anything here. Barramundi, fingermark, spanish mackerel, grunter, queenies and trevally, Don't be surprised if you get busted up. There's some big fish down there! Turn left at the pub, then turn right. Follow the road down to the jetty.
Fishing on the beach, in front of the sugar loading jetty. Perfect for a quiet spot of fishing and a relax. Just watch out for crocs. Wading or being close to the water's edge is not recommended. :) We also have a fabulous playground, plenty of picnic tables, BBQs and shade shelters, plus public toilets down here.
Dungeness has a few fishing and viewing platforms near the boat ramp. Great little spot with toilets, shops, a playground and a BBQ area. Just don't forget midgee spray! (available at the shops, if you forget.)
Additionally, there's a few little creeks to try, on the road between Halifax and Lucinda.
Plus you have the option to hire a dinghy, explore our beautiful waterways, and go fishing. Even if you don't have a boat licence!
